Drivers should plan to detour as a short section of Ferndale Terrace, between Shannon Ave and Sherry Pl, will be CLOSED for utility work. This traffic revision is in effect Tuesday, January 7th. The closure hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Residents in the work zone will have access in and out of their homes. This project is expected to take one day.

Due to water over the roadway, Smith Road between LaBounty and west city limits at Hovander Road, will be closed. There will be road closed signs at Scout Place on Hovander Road to allow vehicles to turn around safely. The closure is in effect 24 hours a day until the roadway is deemed safe for travel by City of Ferndale Public Works.
Turn Around, Don’t Drown… Please abide by road-closed signs. Roads are closed for public safety. If there is water on the roadway, do not drive through the area, and please be alert to utility crews working flood impacted areas.

The south end of 2nd Avenue and the City parking lot will be closed on Friday, December 20th while restrooms are delivered for Metalworks Skate Park and the adjacent softball fields. The work is scheduled from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The skate park will remain open for use.

Contractor’s will be installing artwork first on the westbound side and then on the eastbound side of the roadway. The traffic revision is in effect Friday, November 15th, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Flaggers will be onsite to direct traffic. This project is expected to be completed in one-day.

The City is aware of an ongoing evacuation at Ferndale High School and is working closely with the School District, Whatcom County Sheriff, and other partners. To allow proper evaluation from law enforcement, please refrain from coming to Campus. Golden Eagle Drive and Shuksan Drive have been closed to non-emergency personnel.
Expect longer commute times as Barrett Rd will be CLOSED to through traffic near 5440 Barrett Rd. (near the U-Haul Storage Units) on Thursday, October 3rd. Through traffic will detour via Main St, Smith Rd, and LaBounty Dr. Local traffic will be directed by flaggers. The closure is in effect from 7:00am to 7:00pm. The closure is expected to take one day.

Drivers should expect delays as traffic is reduced to single lane alternating traffic on Washington St. between 2nd and 3rd Ave at the railroad crossing. The traffic revision is in effect Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Work will be done on one side of the road and then switch to the other side. Pedestrians will be shifted to the non-work side of the road as needed. Flaggers will be onsite to direct both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
This one-day project is associated with a BNSF railway crossing improvement project.
Drivers should plan to detour as Thornton Street will be CLOSED between Della Drive and Pacific Heights Drive on Monday, August 26th and Tuesday, August 27th. The detour route around the closure uses Church Rd, Main St/Mountainview Rd, and Olson Rd.
Sidewalks on both sides of the street will be closed inside the work zone. This closure occurs prior to the start of the school year so should not impact student school routes.
The traffic revision is expected to last for two days, Monday, August 26th and Tuesday, August 27th. Work hours are 7am to 7pm each day.
