ADA Accessibility

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life — including access to government services, public spaces, transportation, employment, and communication.

ADA Transition Plan

The City of Ferndale is dedicated to providing equal access to public programs, services, facilities, and activities for all residents, including individuals with disabilities. To support this goal, the City has developed an ADA Transition Plan (PDF) for the Public Right-of-Way, in compliance with federal and state laws.

The City's Transition Plan is in accordance with:

    • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
    • Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (CFR 28 Part 35)
    • Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Local Agency Guidelines Manual, Chapter 29

The Transition Plan aims to:

    • Identify physical barriers in city facilities and the public right-of-way that limit accessibility
    • Outline methods for removing those barriers and improving access
    • Provide a timeline for improvements and modifications
    • Assign responsibility to specific officials for implementation and oversight
