2018
Here you’ll find the City’s completed projects in 2018. As-built drawings for all completed projects are available through the As-Built Locator.
Project Summary
This project included installing the new sidewalks and ramps to meet the current ADA standards, replacing all of the non-ADA-compliant ramps, and adding a pedestrian-activated flashing crosswalk beacon. The route forced pedestrians to use the road shoulder or lane of travel which creates a dangerous situation for pedestrians and drivers. This route is an important connector for pedestrian access to facilities and the adjacent multi-family and neighboring housing. This project was completed in conjunction with the Pioneer Park Sidewalk Project.

Project Summary
The City, along with other municipalities in Washington State, partnered with the Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) and Puget Sound Energy (PSE) aiming to lower Cities’ street light electric bill costs by converting bulbs and fixtures to more energy-efficient LEDs. This program, called Relight Washington, was wholly funded by TIB and resulted in no upfront or direct cost to Ferndale citizens and taxpayers. The City will benefit from the overall reduction of the utility bill to power the lights.
Project Summary
This project installed a new sanitary sewer gravity main on Thornton Street beginning east of Malloy Avenue and extended to Portal Way, via a bore under the BNSF railroad tracks. This project also had the benefit of diverting significant wastewater flows to the system on Portal Way thereby allowing the City to eliminate the need to upsize several segments of existing sewer collection mains located along a corridor between Malloy Avenue and BNSF’s tracks.
