Progress continues at the future Civic Campus site! As construction advances, we want to thank everyone for your continued patience and cooperation while we navigate parking lot impacts and on-site activity during the building phase of the new City Hall. If you’ve been near Main Street or City Hall lately, you’ve likely noticed significant changes taking shape.
Excavation for the footings and foundation is now underway, a major milestone in bringing the new Civic Campus to life. Dawson Construction and their subcontractors are currently preparing the site for the next phase of work: installation of aggregate piers that will support the building’s foundation. This process involves drilling 113 thirty-inch holes, which will be backfilled with gravel and compacted as they are filled. This important step strengthens the ground to ensure long-term stability for the new structure. Please note that this phase will generate noticeable noise and vibration in and around the existing City Hall.
As part of this work, the western entrance to the parking lot is now closed due to excavation activity. To maintain safe access, the contractor has shifted site entry to Fourth Avenue instead of Main Street. The “bridge” access to the City Hall parking area will remain open, but construction vehicles will now pass through the lot more frequently, especially during aggregate pier placement. Please use extra caution when crossing the parking lot and note that parking along the north side of the lot will now be used by the contractor’s crews. An updated parking lot map has been provided to reflect these changes.
