Star Park Picnic Shelter Ribbon Cutting – Nov. 3rd, 4:30PM at Star Park

Star Park Picnic Shelter

The City of Ferndale invites you to a ribbon cutting for Ferndale’s newest park amenity on Weds. Nov. 3rd at 4:30PM at Star Park.

This ADA accessible shelter includes unique artistic features that align with Star Park, seating for over 60 people and will be a welcome addition to the greater Pioneer Park.

The ribbon cutting will include brief remarks by Mayor Greg Hansen and light refreshments. The shelter will be open to the public throughout the winter season and available to rent for events in the spring.

Thank you to Gray and Osbourne, The Watershed Company and Oceanside Construction, Inc for all their work on this project.

The City also wishes to thank former Rep. Luanne Van Werven for securing a grant to help make this happen.

Drivers should prepare for potential delays on West Smith Road, between Pacific Highway and Myers Drive beginning on Thursday, September 30th thru Friday, October 8th, between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Work will take place mainly on the shoulder, with potential intermittent pausing of traffic. Flaggers will be onsite to direct traffic if needed. Road will remain open. This work is associated with a private development project.

Statewide Ban on Single-Use Plastic Bags Begins Oct. 1st

The statewide single-use plastic bag ban will take effect October 1, 2021.Plastic bags are a major contaminant in Washington’s recycling centers, waterways, and roadways.

Washington’s Plastic Bag Ban reduces pollution by prohibiting single-use plastic carryout bags and charging a fee for acceptable bags in business establishments.

Consumers are encouraged to bring their own clean, reusable bags for use in stores and restaurants.

Paper bags and reusable plastic bags will be available at some businesses, but prepare to pay at least eight cents per bag for those options. The fee may not be collected from anyone using a voucher or electronic benefits card issued under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Women’s Infants and Children (WIC), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or Food Assistance Program (FAP).

Drivers should expect delays as LaBounty Drive is closed to thru traffic between Smith Road and Sunset Avenue starting at 7AM on Tuesday, September 7th until 7PM on Wednesday, September 8th. Northbound traffic will be detoured via Sunset Ave. to Rural Ave. to Slater Rd. to Pacific Hwy. to Smith Rd. to LaBounty Dr. Southbound traffic will be detoured via Smith Rd. to Pacific Hwy. to Slater Rd. to Rural Ave. to Sunset Ave. to Labounty Dr. Detour route will be marked. Road will remain closed for duration of the work, including overnight. This work is to complete road improvements associated with a private development project.

Smith Road Closed Aug. 16th-19th for Road Maintenance

The section of Smith Road between Hovander Road and LaBounty Drive will be closed from August 16th to August 19th. The Public Works crew will be onsite conducting essential road maintenance to help restore the road surface. This closure will ensure residents do not damage their vehicles on the exposed road surface, provides for the safety of our public works crew and allows the asphalt time to set after paving is complete.

A detour utilizing Hovander Road and LaBounty Drive will be in place, please follow all traffic directions and utilize alternative routes if possible. For more information, please call Ferndale Public Works at 360-384-4006
