Second Avenue - Notice of Road Closures, Traffic Revisions, and Possible Delays

Issued:  September 9, 2009
Project:  Second Avenue Extension Project
Location:  Second Avenue, between Vista Drive and Eaton Street, Ferndale
Contractor:  RAM Construction General Contractors, Inc.
Date/Duration:  Construction activity will commence on Monday, September 14, 2009, and is anticipated to continue through Summer/Fall of 2010. The estimated duration of the project is expected to be 10-11 months. The actual duration will fluctuate depending on impacts caused by inclement weather and requirements associated with the timing of planting landscape and mitigation vegetation.

Please be advised that construction on the Second Avenue Extension Project will begin on Monday, September 14, 2009. During the course of construction, portions of Second Avenue, between Vista Drive and Eaton Street will be closed to all through traffic. Detours will be established to direct traffic to alternate routes. Motorists are encouraged to utilize alternate routes during construction, as road and lane closures will most likely cause delays. Construction is anticipated to occur through late summer/early fall of 2010.

The first closure of Second Avenue will begin the week of September 21st. Second Avenue, between Vista and Washington will be closed to allow crews to install utility improvements associated with the project. During this closure, traffic will be detoured onto Third Avenue via Washington Street and Vista Drive. Additional information regarding the closure, including maps showing the construction zone and closure areas, can be viewed on the City’s Road Closures page.  Updates regarding the ongoing construction, road closures and traffic revisions will be posted as they become available. Interested persons are encouraged to sign up via the website to receive email notices.

If you have questions regarding this project, please contact Katy Radder in the Ferndale Public Works Department at (360) 384-4006 ext. 210.
