This photo shows Shannon Avenue, with the sewer line installed and pavement patched. The new line is fully functional. Pavement markings must be reapplied where recent construction obliterated center and fog lines.

This is the last sewer manhole installed by the contractor. It connects the City's existing sanitary sewer system into the new line.

The last portion of pipe installed included work on Shannon Avenue. Here, the contractor is installing 18" diameter pipe, bedded in pea gravel. Locating tape is placed above the pipe before it's backfilled and paved.

Imhoff Road has been rebuilt and new pavement has been placed on the roadway. Here, workers compact the new asphalt in preparation of reopening the road to traffic.

Here, the contractor has installed and backfilled the 18" sewer line running north and south between Douglas Road and Main Street. A trench box is shown in the foreground. The background shows where the line has been completed and buried near Beacon Manor Apartments. Bare areas of soil will be reseeded before the project's complete.

This photo shows installation of 27" PVC sanitary sewer pipe along Imhoff Road. Imhoff Road has been closed to through traffic during this phase of installation. As you can see, construction equipment and trench excavation takes up most of the roadway. Allowing traffic through would create an unsafe situation for both workers and motorists. As part of this project, the contractor will restore Imhoff Road to current standards.

The presence of groundwater has been a big concern during the installation of this sewer line. Here, wellpoints are being installed to allow the contractor to pump groundwater out of the area.

Scarsella Brothers, Inc. are installing 27" diameter PVC sanitary sewer pipe at the lower limits of this project from the City of Ferndale Sewer Treatment Plant towards Imhoff Road. Steel trench boxes create a safe working area during pipe installation. Pea gravel is used for pipe bedding.
