JOB SUMMARY:
Provides the initial point of contact for Police Department services. Responds to requests for disclosure of public records, enters data into various official databases, and issues Concealed Pistol Licenses.

Salary Range $3,225 – $4,042, Depending on Experience

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Greets visitors to the police department, and responds to a variety of requests and inquiries telephonically, electronically, and in person
  • Responsible for filing police reports and correspondence
  • Performs fingerprinting services
  • Responsible for cash drawer balancing and daily deposits
  • Orders and maintains office supplies
  • Performs mail run to Post Office and City Hall. Sorts and distributes office mail
  • Assists with quality control of warrant and court order entries
  • Responsible for false alarm notifications
  • Organizes and maintains various informational files used in the Records Section
  • Other data entry and clerical duties as assigned
  • Prepares police reports for referral to the courts
  • Enters criminal citations and infractions and other official information into various criminal justice databases
  • Handles routine public disclosure of official records in accordance with State law
  • Performs background inquiries relating to employment, foreign travel and criminal investigations

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Office environment subject to distractions, phone interruptions, and heavy customer contact. Ability to work calmly and effectively with sometimes abusive and/or angry individuals.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED). At least one year experience in a law enforcement agency is highly desirable.
  • Must become certified in ACCESS Level I within 3 months and ACCESS Level II in six months
  • Ability to use good judgement and appropriate initiative, make reasoned and proper decisions, within scope of knowledge, quickly and objectively in urgent situations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of information
