Mayor's Message

Welcome Message from Mayor Jensen

Our present mayor was born in Bellingham in 1955.  His boyhood home is three blocks from our current city hall.  His father, Lorne Jensen, served as a police chief for the City of Ferndale and later retired as our Fire Chief of District Number Seven.  Mr. Jensen is a proud graduate of Ferndale High School, class of 1973.  His wife of 28 years, Kelly, is currently a kindergarten teacher at Central Elementary here in Ferndale.  His one child, daughter Taryn, currently lives in Seattle.  All of the family are former Ferndale Golden Eagles.

With deep roots in the community Gary has volunteered for numerous community organizations (the Old Settlers Association, the Chamber of Commerce and others).  He has served as a high school wrestling official for 35 years.  He previously served on the Ferndale City Council.  He owns a local plumbing company in Ferndale.

Ferndale has a very bright future.  Ferndale can and will grow in an orderly, manageable fashion.  Our new mayor’s philosophy includes an emphasis on Green building practices with homes and buildings that use less resources and impact the daily lives of our citizens in a positive way.

Ferndale has rich tradition of citizen involvement.  Our city has numerous boards, commissions and volunteer organizations that welcome all participation.  Feel welcome to search our meeting schedule on this site and find an event to interest you.  Our City of Ferndale is waiting to welcome you!
