Arts Commission Seeks Design Ideas for Water Tank Mural
5/1/17 – The Ferndale Arts Commission is seeking design ideas for painting the water tank at the intersection of Vista Drive and Thornton Street. Submissions will be accepted from May 1st – June 9th at City Hall in Ferndale, with the goal of completing the painting by August 31st.
“This is a highly visible spot. We hope this mural quickly becomes a beloved Ferndale icon,” said Colleen Harper, Ferndale Arts Commissioner. “Successful design ideas will reflect a sense of Ferndale identity.”
The mural will occupy up to 10 feet by 140 feet, and will adorn the side of the water tank facing the intersection. The Ferndale Arts Commission will help facilitate the painting of the mural.
Entries Now Being Accepted for the Fifth Annual Free Verse Poetry Project!!
A line or two selected from a poem is taken off the page and written in a nontraditional, unexpected way. For example, a fragment of verse by T. S. Elliot was drawn in sugar strewn across a table. Legendary lines by William Carlos Williams were etched in mud covering a red wheelbarrow. The line of poetry must be in the photo when shot, not added later.
- Pictures must be 8″ X 10″ and mounted on standard black mounting board, or black construction paper.
- Deadline for entries is 5:00 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2017. Entries will be accepted in person: Ferndale City Hall, 2095 Main Street, or by mail: City of Ferndale, PO Box 936, Ferndale, WA 98248. Online entries cannot be accepted.
- Prizes will be awarded for winning entries. All entries will be displayed in participating businesses throughout Ferndale.
