City Council

The City of Ferndale operates under the Mayor-Council form of government.  The City Council is the legislative and policy-making branch of City government.  The Mayor is the administrative head of the City in our form of government.  The Council approves laws through ordinances and policies through resolutions; they approve expenditures through the annual budget process and set the general tone for the government itself. Council members are elected at-large for four-year overlapping terms.  Anyone who's been a resident of the City for longer than one year, and a qualified voter, is eligible to run for election to the Council.  Elections are held on odd-numbered years.

The Mayor and seven-member City Council meets at least twice monthly to conduct business.  Ferndale City Council meetings are held the first and third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Annex Building located at 5694 Second Avenue.  Council agendas are usually available on-line by 5:00 p.m. on the Friday preceding a regular Council Meeting.  The information may also be obtained by calling City Hall during regular office hours at (360) 384-4302.
