City Council

The City of Ferndale operates under the Mayor-Council form of government.  The City Council is the legislative and policy-making branch of City government.  The Mayor is the administrative head of the City in our form of government.  The Council approves laws through ordinances and policies through resolutions; they approve expenditures through the annual budget process and set the general tone for the government itself. Council members are elected at-large for four-year overlapping terms.  Anyone who's been a resident of the City for longer than one year, and a qualified voter, is eligible to run for election to the Council.  Elections are held on odd-numbered years.

The Mayor and seven-member City Council meets at least twice monthly to conduct business.  The Council's calendar lists upcoming meetings.  Ferndale City Council meetings are held the first and third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall Annex Building located at 5694 Second Avenue.  Council agendas are usually available on-line by 5:00 p.m. on the Friday preceding a regular Council Meeting.  The information may also be obtained by calling City Hall during regular office hours at (360) 384-4302.
