Downtown Planning

The City has made the protection of existing downtown businesses, the redevelopment of the downtown core, and the re-introduction of downtown residences a top priority.  In 2010 the City, in partnership with the Ferndale Downtown Association, the Ferndale Economic Development Commission, and the Chamber of Commerce held three public meetings to discuss options to revitalize the area.  These meetings, called Ferndale Rising, resulted in several dozen Alternatives for Action (see link below).

In 2011, the City has sought to amend the zoning in the core to provide the ability for smaller developments to take root.
