Comprehensive Plan Updates

The City Council has directed resources toward accomplishing the required update of the Comprehensive Plan, and that effort has been underway for the past year or so. The primary objective of this effort is to bring the city's Comprehensive Plan into “technical” compliance with GMA. As a “technical” update, no significant changes to goals, policies, land use designations, or the Urban Growth Area (UGA) are contemplated at this time. Those kind of changes will be considered during the subsequent 20/20 planning process, which is discussed below. Documents, schedules, and information pertaining to the current Comp Plan Update process may be viewed on-line (at the bottom of this page) or at the Planning and Building Department.

The 20/20 Planning Process and Future Comp Plan Updates

Following the completion of the technical update of the Comprehensive Plan, the City will initiate what is being referred to as the “20/20” planning process. The objective of this planning process is to accomplish sub-area or neighborhood-level planning for the entire UGA. This is anticipated to be a multi-year process leading to a more in-depth and detailed plan for the future city. Documents, schedules, and information pertaining to the up-coming 20/20 Planning Process may be viewed on-line or at the Planning and Building Department as they are developed.

The State will require that the city next update its Comprehensive Plan in 2011. It is anticipated that the 20/20 planning process will take place during the interim period. If all goes as planned, the 20/20 Plan will provide the basis for the Comprehensive Plan update that will be required by the State in 2011.
