The City of Ferndale is proposing to adopt a master plan for the
area around I-5 Exit 262 to prepare for retail, office and housing
development. The plan will be a guide post consistent with the
City’s Comprehensive Plan, and is intended to promote desirable
economic development, a high quality of life and the unique and
diverse character of the City.
Specifically, the plan will identify possible development levels,
and the corresponding transportation, public service and utilities
requirements for the four quadrants around the I-5/Main Street
interchange. An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) will be
prepared to assess the impacts of development. Following the EIS
process, the City may decide to adopt a planned action ordinance,
which would exempt certain development from additional review under
the State Environmental Policy Act because the areas to be developed
have been accounted for in a master plan and responsible mitigation
requirements would already be in place.
